Joker Director No Longer Making Hulk Hogan Movie With Chris Hemsworth
"That's not going to come together for me."
At one point, Joker director Todd Phillips was planning to make a movie about Hulk Hogan starring Thor actor Chris Hemsworth in the lead role. But it's not going to happen.
Phillips told Variety, "I love what we were trying to do, but that's not going to come together for me," the director said.
This update from Phillips is not a big surprise. After all, Hemsworth himself gave a disappointing update on the Hulk movie back in May, saying it had yet to come together. And now it seems like it may never, at least not with Phillips directing.
"If there's a great script and a story to tell, I'd love to jump into it. But there's nothing official at this point," Hemsworth said at the time in an interview with ScreenRant.
Phillips' next movie is Joker: Folie a Deux, which releases in theaters this October. Many are already wondering what he could make next, and it sounds like it won't be Joker 3. "It was fun to play in this sort of sandbox for two movies, but I think we've said what we wanted to say in this world," Phillips said.
The full Variety interview is stacked with interesting insight on the Joker sequel, including how the filmmakers considered producing a Broadway musical instead of a sequel, an idea for a female Joker, and how Phillips wants viewers to feel like "crazy people" made the movie.
