Mafia Prequel Announced, More Info Coming In December
Mafia: The Old Country is officially in the works.
The rumors were right--Hangar 13 is making a new Mafia game. As rumored, it's a prequel called Mafia: The Old Country, taking place in 1900s Sicily when the Italian mob was forming. The game was announced at the end of Gamescom Opening Night Live.
All we got was a very brief teaser trailer for Mafia: The Old Country. It's a tantalizing tease, and Hangar 13 said it will share more information the game this December. That could line up with The Game Awards, but nothing is confirmed at this stage.
The Old Country is also the name of a Mafia II mission that takes place during World War II in Italy.
Hangar 13 also developed Mafia: The Definitive Edition, which is now available on Xbox Game Pass, as well as Mafia III. More recently, Hangar 13 made the very un-Mafia game TopSpin 2K25.
In addition to Mafia: The Old Country, 2K announced more details on Civilization VII during Gamescom Opening Night Live. The publisher also revealed Borderlands 4. For more on the show, check out GameSpot's rundown of all the biggest news in the gallery below.
