Celestial Medicines, also known as Celestial Pills, are invaluable items found in Black Myth: Wukong. Each one grants a considerable bonus to an attribute, improving your survivability and combat prowess. Here's our guide to help you get all health, mana, and stamina upgrades in Black Myth: Wukong.
All health, mana, and stamina upgrades in Black Myth: Wukong - Celestial Medicines guide
There are usually around three Black Myth: Wukong health, mana, and stamina upgrades in each major region. These appear as small bowls with a golden glow, and are categorized as such:
- Celestial Jade Lotus Pill - Increases your maximum health
- Celestial Taiyi Pill - Increases your maximum mana
- Celestial Nonary Pill - Increases your stamina
Our Black Myth: Wukong Celestial Medicines guide is organized based on when we found these upgrades over the course of our playthrough. Likewise, we've included a tip regarding another aspect that helps increase your attributes.
Chapter 1: Celestial Jade Lotus Pill - Health upgrade
Forest of Wolves: Guanyin Temple - This Black Myth: Wukong health upgrade can be yours after defeating a boss named Lingxuzi. As you exit the temple, you'll spot an altar to your left that has this container.
Chapter 1: Celestial Taiyi Pill - Mana upgrade
Bamboo Grove: Marsh of White Mist - Go past the small cave after beating the Whiteclad Noble, and check the vista to your left. This area also has a Meditation Spot.
Chapter 1: Celestial Nonary Pill - Stamina upgrade
Black Wind Cave: Outside the Cave - Follow the cliffside path that's guarded by squads of Rat Archers and you should stumble upon an altar.
Chapter 2: Celestial Nonary Pill - Stamina upgrade
Sandgate Village: Valley of Despair - Inside the cave system where you fight the First Prince of Flowing Sands, there’s a small chamber where you battle the Swift Bat spirit miniboss. The sloping path here leads to another cavern that has this stamina upgrade, and it's guarded by a couple of humanoid bat creatures.
Chapter 2: Celestial Taiyi Pill - Mana upgrade
Fright Cliff: Rock Crash Platform - To get this upgrade that increases your mana in Black Myth: Wukong, you need to defeat the Stone Vanguard boss. Past that arena are stone steps guarded by a Rat Governor spirit form. Take it out and open the nearby container.
Chapter 2: Celestial Jade Lotus Pill - Health upgrade
Crouching Tiger Temple: Temple Entrance - Defeat the Tiger Vanguard boss and jump down the tiger mouth opening. There's an altar close to your drop-off point that has this upgrade.
Chapter 3: Celestial Taiyi Pill - Mana upgrade
Pagoda Realm: Outside the Wheel - Found in the snowy area that you pass through after beating Captain Wise-Voice in the Pagoda Realm.
Chapter 3: Celestial Jade Lotus Pill - HP upgrade
Bitter Lake: Turtle Island - To increase your health in Black Myth: Wukong, you have to defeat Kang-Jin Star. After the battle and while facing the Turtle Island shrine/waypoint, go to the left-hand side of this area. You'll notice this altar below a ledge.
Chapter 3: Celestial Nonary Pill - Stamina upgrade
New Thunderclap Temple: Temple Entrance - From the shrine, go straight and turn left to reach the side hall where the Non-Void spirit boss resides. Then, make a right to see a garden with a frozen pond. This Celestial Pill is in this area.
Chapter 4: Celestial Jade Lotus Pill - Health upgrade
Village of Lanxi: Estate of the Zhu - Before jumping down the pit that leads to the Hollows, check the altar at the back of the yard.
Chapter 4: Celestial Taiyi Pull - Mana upgrade
Webbed Hollow: Cliff of Oblivion - After defeating Buddha’s Right Hand, cross the makeshift bridge created by its corpse and look to your left.
Chapter 4: Celestial Nonary Pill - Stamina upgrade
Temple of Yellow Flowers: Court of Illumination - This Black Myth: Wukong Celestial Medicine is actually part of a side quest where you need to collect talismans from shrines with purple glows. If you manage to obtain all three, the barrier at the Court of Illumination will dissipate, which leads to a boss fight.
Note: This side quest might be bugged if you finish the chapter too early. In our playthrough, we defeated the final boss of this chapter before triggering a cutscene in one of the shrine locations. This prevented us from collecting the other talismans.
Chapter 5: Celestial Jade Lotus Pill - Health upgrade
Woods of Ember: Ashen Pass II - After beating Fast as Wind and Quick as Fire, you’ll see this container directly across from the shrine.
Chapter 5: Celestial Taiyi Pill - Mana upgrade
Furnace Valley: Rakshasa Palace - Enter Rakshasa Palace and tag the fast travel point. This bowl is on a stone table near the shrine.
Chapter 5: Celestial Nonary Pill - Stamina upgrade
Bishui Cave: Purge Pit - To get this Black Myth: Wukong Celestial Pill or Celestial Medicine, you need to have access to the Chapter 5 secret area. Once there, defeat the Top Takes Bottom, Bottom Takes Top boss. You'll then see an altar to your left when passing through the next area.
Xu Dog: Celestial Medicines function
There's also another method to increase your stamina, mana, and health in Black Myth: Wukong. It involves crafting Celestial Medicines directly. Here's a quick summary:
- The NPC that you're looking for is the Xu Dog, who also unlocks the medicine crafting function early in Chapter 2.
- Later when you encounter him near the Crouching Tiger Temple - Cellar waypoint, you should see the Make Medicines - Celestial Medicines option. This allows you to allocate items called Mind Cores to boost certain attributes further. These include health, mana, stamina, stamina recovery rate, defense, and resistances (i.e. chill, burn, poison, and shock).
- These Celestial Pills offer a smaller boost compared to the bowls that you've found during your travels. The number of upgrades is also limited. For instance, you can only have up to nine additional upgrades for your health, mana, and stamina.
- If you select the Remake Celestial Medicines option when talking to Xu Dog, you can refund all Mind Cores that you've spent. This is a great way to reallocate the resources into other stats that you prefer.
Mind Core sources
Mind Cores in Black Myth: Wukong are plentiful enough:
- Might be contained in certain chests.
- Dropped by several bosses.
- Some are sold by Xu Dog.
The Five Skandhas Pill
Finally, there's another reward that awaits you, and it's still related to Black Myth: Wukong health, mana, and stamina upgrades. It concerns the Skandha key items that you've acquired throughout the campaign. Once you have all five, return to the Xu Dog and show him what you've found. He'll then be able to craft the Five Skandha's Pill, which increases multiple attributes.
That does it for our Black Myth: Wukong Celestial Medicines guide. We hope this helps you boost your stats further so you can have a hassle-free adventure. We also encourage you to take a look at our Gourd drinks/soaks guide and Meditation Spots guide.
