Black Myth: Wukong has you battling over 80 bosses and elites, each providing some nifty rewards. One particular type of reward is a spirit, a form that you can shapeshift into momentarily to make use of that foe's unique ability or spell. Here's our guide on where to find all spirits in Black Myth: Wukong. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains minor spoilers.
Where to find all spirits in Black Myth: Wukong
Most Black Myth: Wukong spirit forms come from Yaoguai Chiefs, which are basically the equivalent of minibosses or elites. Compared to regular enemies, these creatures have a bluish glow emanating from their bodies. Once defeated, they leave behind a blue flame that you can collect.
Note that other foes in the game don't grant spirits at all, but they reward you with transformation spells. When cast, you turn into creatures with their own health bars and offensive abilities. You can learn more about them in our transformations guide. You may also take a look at our bosses guide to learn about the hostiles you'll face throughout your journey.
When do you unlock the Black Myth: Wukong spirit mechanic and how does it work?
You unlock the Black Myth: Wukong spirit feature very early in the game during Chapter 1, and you're likely to stumble upon one such elite known as the Wandering Wight. Once defeated, it will drop a blue flame, though you won't be able to acquire it just yet.
Instead, you need to progress a bit further past Guanyin Temple, at which point you'll meet the elder. He'll upgrade your gourd, allowing you to interact with the blue flames left behind by the Yaoguai Chiefs that you eliminate. Also, in case your character perishes before you're able to pick up a blue flame, you can just check a shrine/waypoint to recover it. This guarantees that you won't lose out on an ability.
Lastly, here are a few tidbits to remember:
- When a spirit is equipped, you gain a stat boost or passive effect.
- Activating the equipped spirit on the battlefield allows you to transform into that creature to cast its spell or skill. This action has its own resource cost called Qi.
- When interacting with shrines, you can select Self Advance - Cultivate Spirits. This menu lets you upgrade a spirit further, such as lowering the Qi cost for activation, extending the effect's duration, adding another summoned critter, and so on.
- Cultivating a spirit costs will (the basic currency) and other materials, such as Blood of the Iron Bull and Knot of Voidness.
