Black Myth: Wukong lets you bring down numerous foes with myriad melee combos and magical spells. But there are even more abilities that you can obtain, and some of these can truly change how you approach encounters. Here's our guide to help you unlock all Vessels in Black Myth: Wukong. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains spoilers.
Black Myth: Wukong Vessels guide - How to unlock all Vessels in the campaign
There are four Vessels in Black Myth: Wukong. Three of these come from secret areas, while one is obtained as part of regular progression. As such, our guide is organized based on the regions that you visit during the campaign. We've also included links to other guides that discuss each secret side quest in detail.
In any case, here are some important tidbits to consider:
- Vessels are equipped in your inventory, and only one can be active at any given time.
- These can be used in battle by pressing the "T" key, though doing so fully consumes the Qi resource.
- Since it's hard to replenish Qi, your best bet is to rest at a shrine/waypoint so you can cast the ability once more.
- Note that each Vessel has an additional effect that remains active as long as it's equipped.
- Lastly, once all four Vessels are yours, you'll receive the "Treasure Trove" achievement, too.
Chapter 1 Vessel: Fireproof Mantle - How to unlock
The Fireproof Mantle will likely be the first Black Myth: Wukong Vessel that you'll unlock in the campaign. All you need to do is ring the three large bells in this particular level. You'll then get teleported to the Ancient Guanyin Temple to fight a boss named Elder Jinchi. You can learn more about these steps in our Chapter 1 secret area guide.
Chapter 1 Vessel: Fireproof Mantle - Effects and usage
- Activation effect: Grants burn immunity and gradual focus increase; highly effective in specific environments and specific enemies.
- Equipped effect: Significantly increases burn resistance and grants immunity to scorch damage from lava-covered terrain.
Many bosses in the campaign use various kinds of fire-based attacks, so the bonus resistance is great to have. Moreover, one of the game's chapters takes place in a mountain with several lava flows. If you're immune to the effect, then you'd hardly need to worry about a thing.
Chapter 2 Vessel: Wind Tamer - How to unlock
This Vessel can be yours by completing two quests. The first involves breaking a curse to free a petrified man, and the other has you aiding a drunk boar. Once you're done with those tasks, you'll find yourself in the Kingdom of Sahali, where you'll need to bring down a gigantic beetle. We discuss these steps further in our Man-in-Stone guide and Chapter 2 secret area guide.
Chapter 2 Vessel: Wind Tamer - Effects and usage
- Activation effect: Massively increases damage reduction for a short duration and grants immunity to strong winds; highly effective against specific enemies.
- Equipped effect: Slightly increases damage reduction.
The equipped effect only provides a measly +2% damage reduction. However, once this Vessel is activated, you gain a whopping +50% damage reduction buff. This makes this equipment a viable option when you're up against hard-hitting foes.
Chapter 4 Vessel: Weaver's Needle - How to unlock
To unlock this Black Myth: Wukong Vessel, you need to explore the Webbed Hollow thoroughly to find the Venom Daoist boss. The first bout is inconclusive, since your foe runs away. However, once you've defeated him for a second time, he'll reveal a path that leads to the Purple Cloud Mountain, which has even more boss battles and rewards. Have a look at our Chapter 4 secret area guide to learn about the details.
Chapter 4 Vessel: Weaver's Needle - Effects and usage
- Activation effect: Spawns a needle that relentlessly homes in on enemies; highly effective against specific enemies.
- Equipped effect: Slightly increases critical hit chance and critical hit damage.
The equipped effect provides +2% critical hit chance and +6% critical hit damage as a base effect. Still, what makes this Vessel quite awesome to behold is that the needle flies around and pierces nearby opponents, akin to the Yaka Arrow wielded by Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Chapter 5 Vessel: Plantain Fan - How to unlock
Among all the Vessels in the game, the Plantain Fan is the only one that's obtained via progression--there's no need to complete any secret side quest. It's automatically given to you by Princess Iron Fan at the end of Chapter 5.
Chapter 5 Vessel: Plantain Fan - Effects and usage
- Activation effect: Creates a hurricane that lifts the enemy airborne; highly effective against specific enemies.
- Equipped effect: Moderately increases stamina recovery rate.
Make no mistake: the Plantain Fan is singularly the best Vessel in the entire game. That's because of the tornado that it creates, which repeatedly pushes back any foe, including bosses. If you can manage to get them stuck next to a wall or barrier, you can juggle them for several seconds, punishing them with countless hits with your staff. Even better, if you cast A Pluck of Many, your mirror image duplicates can happily wail away on them.
