Very few objectives in Black Myth: Wukong can hold a candle to the one that unlocks Purple Cloud Mountain. From plumbing the depths of a massive cave system in search of a deadly foe, to tackling multiple tasks for certain denizens, it's really something to behold. The good news is that this arduous trek leads to some cool rewards. Here's our guide to help you complete the Chapter 4 secret area in Black Myth: Wukong. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains spoilers.
Black Myth: Wukong Chapter 4 secret area - Purple Cloud Mountain
The process to complete the Black Myth: Wukong Chapter 4 secret area is rather convoluted, but here's a quick summary:
- Reach a well-hidden area of the Webbed Hollow known as the Pool of Shattered Jade. There, you'll fight the Venom Daoist boss.
- Look for the Venom Daoist boss in the Temple of Yellow Flowers.
- Gain access to the secret realm and obtain various rewards.
- Complete Daoist Mi's quest.
- Defeat the final boss in the secret realm.
How to reach the Pool of Shattered Jade
The first step to gain access to the Chapter 4 secret area in Black Myth: Wukong is to reach the Pool of Shattered Jade. Here's what you need to do:
- From the Upper Hollow shrine, go to the platform with spider sacs and look for a ledge that allows you to drop down.
- Cut through this tunnel while avoiding the enemies and the hostile spider sacs.
- At the very end, there's scaffolding leading to Middle Hollow (i.e. the main path). Instead of going down the scaffolding, go to the cliffside area/ledge.
- The Pool of Shattered Jade shrine is nearby. There's also a Meditation Spot here.
Venom Daoist: First encounter
Head past the shrine and check the yard full of spider sacs. When you're ready, hit Old Cocoon in the center, which is larger than the rest. This will cause the Venom Daoist to appear. This boss has fast and ferocious melee attacks, often dashing back and forth or spinning erratically. If you defeat him, he'll escape and warn you that he'll show you his true power next time.
Where to find the Venom Daoist's next location
The Black Myth: Wukong Venom Daoist boss doesn't actually give you a clue as to where he'll go next. For now, just progress through the level normally, defeating multiple optional and major bosses along the way.
Eventually, you'll reach the Temple of Yellow Flowers. At the end of these long and winding paths, you'll arrive at the Court of Illumination shrine, which is right next to the arena of this chapter's boss. Instead of fighting this foe, turn around and you'll notice a tunnel.
Go all the way near the end until you reach another open area. To your left, there's a downward sloping path that leads to a dark cavern. That's where you'll find the Venom Daoist.
Venom Daoist: Second encounter
The Black Myth: Wukong Venom Daoist boss is significantly tougher this time around. Initially, he'll just retain the same abilities and attack patterns as before. In fact, you'll even lop off his arms as you deal more damage.
However, once his HP has been fully depleted, you'll begin the second phase of the battle. His attacks will be faster, and he'll have more unpredictable combo sequences. Likewise, this cavern is quite dark, so try to stay at the edges so the shadow effects don't hamper your vision.
The Purple Cloud Mountain secret area - Points-of-interest, bosses, and rewards
After defeating the Venom Daoist, he'll reveal a drawing that's etched on the cavern walls. Interact with it to get transported to the Black Myth: Wukong Painted Cloud Mountain secret area. Here's a summary of what you can expect:
- You'll meet the Snake Lady early on. She advises you to bring/craft Antimiasma Powder due to enemies that can inflict poison.
- There are a couple of spirit forms here:
- Verdant Glow - Look at the forested area to your right just past the Valley of Blooms shrine.
- Snake Herbalist - Guarding the gate just before the Petalfall Hamlet waypoint.
- If you keep going right past the Bounds of Deity's Abode waypoint, you'll stumble upon the Scorpionlord. He warns you not to touch the jars. If you destroy them, it leads to a fight. Beating him nets you the Deathstinger, a material used to craft the Venomous Sting Insect Armor. It actually completes your Fuban Armor Set from Chapter 2: Kingdom of Sahali.
- You can also find some curios/accessories:
- Celestial Registry Tablet - From a small gazebo in the open area near the Petalfall Hamlet waypoint.
- Gold Sun Crow - In the open area just past the Scorpionlord boss, you’ll see a sloping path. Go up the hill and cross the rope bridge to open this chest.
Daoist Mi and the Violet Hail
At the Petalfall Hamlet shrine, you'll encounter an NPC named Daoist Mi. He asks you to help his fellow priests who seem to have fallen to corruption. If you follow the alleyway to the back-right section, one of the priests that you slay drops a key item called the Violet Hail.
Once you give this to Daoist Mi, he'll turn hostile and another boss fight ensues. If you can defeat him, the Snake Lady will teach you the Violet Hail spell. It's one of several transformation spells in the game. It turns you into a Worm Guai that can infect hostiles with exploding larvae. It's also immune to poison, which is useful for the next bout.
Secret area final boss: The Duskveil
When you're ready, proceed up the steps at Cloudnest Peak to fight the Duskveil, a corrupted calf-buzzard hybrid. Its attack animations are rather slow, which makes it easy enough to hit. However, phase two of the battle is where things get tricky, since many of its abilities are infused with cursed blood.
After defeating the Duskveil, you'll complete the Black Myth: Wukong Chapter 4 secret area objective. The Snake Lady will thank you for your help, and you'll receive the following amazing rewards:
- Vessel: Weaver's Needle - This is one of several Vessel items that you can obtain. It's a needle that flies around and homes in on enemies to strike them. Think of it as akin to Yondu's homing arrow from Guardians of the Galaxy.
- Armor: Iron-Tough Set and Material: Duskveil's Horn - You should now be able to craft the complete Iron-Tough armor set.
- Soak: Double-Combed Rooster Blood - This gourd drink/soak item removes the poison status effect and boosts your movement speed and critical hit chance.
