This 4K remaster of the film comes with a standard Blu-ray disc and a digital streaming code, and for the extras, you're getting a bewitching steelbook cover, mini-replicas of the film's original posters, postcards, and an old-school movie ticket stub. There's even a replica of a movie program that was handed at Grauman's Chinese Theater, as back in the day, cinemas would give out little booklets with info on the films being shown that day. For the on-disc extras, you can sit back and watch a documentary on how The Wizard of Oz was made, and there's also a commentary track featuring noted Oz historians John Fricke and Barbara Freed-Salzman.
The Wizard of Oz 85th Anniversary Collector's Edition is available to preorder at Amazon, where it's currently priced at $75, or at Gruv for $55. Amazon's price is likely to drop closer to its November 5 release. As a reminder, you won't be charged for your Amazon preorder until it ships, and you'll always pay the lowest price offered after placing your order.
In case you've never watched The Wizard of Oz, the film is based on L. Frank Baum's classic novel where the Dorothy and her dog Toto are whisked away burning a Kansas tornado to the magical Land of Oz, where she meets lovable characters like the Tinman, Scarecrow, and Cowardly Lion. Together, they set off on the yellow brick road to meet the Wizard of Oz, who might have the power to send Dorothy home and help her friends find some heart, brains, and courage.
The Wizard of Oz and inspired many shows, movies, books, and more media over the years. One of the most notable examples is Wicked, the Tony Award-winning musical turned film. Wicked: Part One releases in theaters November 22, and Part Two is slated for November 2025. Wicked is an adaptation of Gregory Maguire's book of the same name. Maguire turned Wicked into a four-book series, which will be collected in one set on October 1. You can preorder Gregory Maguire's The Wicked Years Box Set for $80 at Amazon. There's also a clothbound replica pop-up book of The Story of Oz & The Wonderful Wizard--which is featured in Wicked--available to preorder for $50 for Amazon.
If you're looking for more classic movies to collect, the giant 40-film Criterion Collection Box Set is also available for preorder. It normally costs a whopping $800, but you can grab a copy early for a slightly more reasonable price of $560. For something more affordable, Indiana Jones Blu-rays and box sets are discouned ahead of the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle video game. Speaking of anniversaries, Batman is also celebrating his 85th anniversary this year with a new 10-film collection that includes the DC hero's best animated flicks on Blu-ray.
