You can complete various quests in Black Myth: Wukong. A few of these tasks might be straightforward, while others have clues that are quite cryptic and hard to discern. One of them just happens to take place during the game's third chapter. Here's our guide to help you with the Pagoda Realm wards and prisoner in Black Myth: Wukong. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains spoilers.
Black Myth: Wukong Pagoda Realm wards and prisoner guide - Chapter 3 quest
The Black Myth: Wukong Pagoda Realm quest is quite notable since you're not given much of a clue regarding the objectives. Here's a quick summary of what to expect:
- When you get transported to the Pagoda Realm, you'll notice several cliffside paths, as well as prison cells. Some of these cells also have a purple ward that prevents you from opening them.
- One cell near your spawn point has a prisoner, who tells you about going back and giving up. Initially, we thought this had something to do with madness-inducing entities in this area, but that wasn't the case.
- The actual goal is to find the four captains so you can collect their spirits. This is what we detail further in our guide.
Captain Lotus-Vision
Location: Upper Pagoda - Proceed further up the Pagoda Realm until you can tag the Upper Pagoda shrine. Next, immediately look to your left to see a roof and ledges you can use to drop down.
Boss fight: Captain Lotus-Vision--not to be confused with Captain Louis Vuitton--is surrounded by several cultist corpses. Early in the fight, he'll shoot you with laser beams, while also resurrecting the undead to fight alongside him. At 50% HP, this boss goes into full overdrive, spawning multiple laser beams that cut through the entire room.
Reward:
- Key item: Spirit of Captain Lotus-Vision.
- Curio: Frostsprout Twig - Moderately increases chill resistance.
Captain Wise-Voice
Location: Mani Wheel - Your next target if you want to complete the Black Myth: Wukong Pagoda Realm quest is to reach the very top of the prison area. That's where you'll find a boss named Captain Wise-Voice.
Boss fight: Yes, be ready for even more lasers. Captain Wise-Voice will fire golden beams that criss-cross the entire room and induces madness that lowers your maximum HP.
Reward: Key item - Spirit of Captain Wise-Voice.
Captain Void-Illusion
Location: Longevity Road - The next item that you need comes from the wide-open, snow-covered peaks. Proceed further into the level until you arrive at the Forest of Felicity shrine. Follow the main road, and you should reach another shrine called Longevity Road. To the right of that area--before the part with multiple frozen worshipers--you'll see the fallen corpse of a giant.
Reward: Key item - Spirit of Captain Void-Illusion.
Captain Kalpa-Wave
Location: Longevity Road/New Thunderclap Temple - From the Longevity Road shrine, keep heading to the right past the frozen worshipers and the crow that spawns. At the end of the path, you'll see the main gate that leads to New Thunderclap Temple. However, before you can enter it, you need to eliminate a formidable-looking foe.
Boss fight: Captain Kalpa-Wave clumsily walks around the entrance to the temple, but don't let his peculiar movements fool you. He's got some deadly abilities, such as blood waves that cause damage over time.
Reward: Key item - Spirit of Captain Kalpa-Wave.
Pagoda Realm wards and prisoner conclusion
Once you've obtained all four captain spirits, you should be able to complete the Pagoda Realm wards and prisoner quest in Black Myth: Wukong. Simply return to the Lower Pagoda waypoint and chat with the prisoner (i.e. the guy in the cell near where you originally spawned when you got teleported to this area). The door should be open now.
For your efforts, you'll receive the Chubai Spearhead, which can be used to craft the Chu-Bai Spear. This weapon has +75 attack, and its unique perk integrates spear techniques into your light attacks, while also increasing the damage of Thrust Stance. Moreover, you'll obtain the "Corrupted Captains" achievement.
You should also check the other cells now that the wards are gone. You're going to find a few treasure chests, as well as some spirit forms, too.
The Ashen Slumber transformation
Lastly, there's one particular secret that you can acquire here, and that's the Black Myth: Wukong Ashen Slumber transformation spell. Be sure that you've spoken to the rat NPC that has barricaded himself inside a house in Chapter 2: Sandgate Village. He's near where you fought the Earth Wolf spirit elite. He'll tell you about a Third Prince who's somewhere in Chapter 3--i.e. "Buddha's realm to the west."
Once you've completed the Pagoda Realm wards quest and freed the prisoner, go up one floor from the prisoner's cell. At the very end of the passageway on that floor is a side tunnel. This leads to a cutscene and a boss battle against the third prince. Once defeated, pick up his sword to obtain the Ashen Slumber ability. You can learn more about it in our transformations guide.
That does it for our Black Myth: Wukong Chapter 3 Pagoda Realm quest guide. If you're out and about exploring other regions, you might want to look into the game's secret areas, such as Chapter 2: Kingdom of Sahali, Chapter 4: Purple Cloud Mountain, and Chapter 5: Bishui Cave.
